Japanese Puzzle Boxes: The first Japanese Secret Puzzle Boxes were designed over 100 years ago in the late Edo period by Jinbei Ishikawa (1790-1850). Ishikawa was living at Hatajuku in the Kakone-cho in the Hakone-Odawara region of Japan. The Hakone Mountains are noted for their richness and great variety of trees. This abundance of high quality wood in the region and the expertise of three generations of master craftsmen have achieved and art form that is revered for it's detail and ingenuity.

These unique puzzle box gifts are made from various Central American natural hardwoods widely available to Costa Rica . Each puzzle box contains one or two secret felt lined compartments found only when removing 3 to 7 pieces unique to each box. Handcrafted in beautiful and intriguing shapes, these boxes are available in heart, apple, bird, animal and many other designs. Costa Rican puzzle boxes are great to hide items that you don't want others to find. Great to start or add to your puzzle box collection.

Moroccan Puzzle Boxes: Moroccan Puzzle Box or Magic Puzzle Boxes as they are sometimes called are crafted from rare wood of the Thuya tree. Thuya wood is found primarily in the coastal town of Essaouira and is exclusive to Morocco. Due to Thuya wood's limited supply Moroccan Puzzle Boxes are only made in small quantities. The wood, carved from the root of the Thuya tree has unique markings displaying beautiful burls and a strong aroma or scent.
